Skinny doesn’t mean beautiful: girls who gained weight and became only better looking

Often excessive thinness, like being overweight, is related to psychological problems, peer pressure, and lack of acceptance of one’s own body. This is called anorexia, sometimes dystrophy. Girls suffering from the disease dream of gaining pounds, but they can’t always do it on their own. Not everyone finds the strength to admit that they are sick and need help. We tell about those who managed to cope with a terrible diagnosis, start a new life and regain the beauty of the body.

Emily Lewis: anorexia due to bullying at school

When a girl from the UK was in high school, her classmates bullied her. This is what made her start to actively lose weight. Emily’s diet consisted of dry bread, fruit and a lot of whole grains. Such a diet led to terrible consequences – anorexia and a weight of 31 kg.

Lewis reacted negatively to all requests to come to her senses and start eating normally, believing that parents and doctors give advice not from good motives. The girl was sure that everything was fine: she was healthy, and her appearance did not embarrass her in the slightest. Except that it was constantly cold. The British woman often lost consciousness, because the body simply refused to work due to lack of energy.

Sometimes I would lie there and think about the fact that I wouldn’t be able to fulfill my dreams, that I would die without having done anything good. There was a sense of injustice, because this was not the end I was expecting.

Now Emily is 22 years old, she was able to get better and now actively engaged in sports, broadcasting it in accounts in social networks.

According to the girl, it was Instagram and people with similar problems that helped her at that period of life and saved her from imminent death. On the Internet, Emily searched for girls who were able to overcome anorexia. Gradually, she started doing therapeutic exercise with a trainer, increasing the load each time.

After receiving several refusals at the castings, Barbieri decided to torture herself with training and hunger. She ate 140 kcal a day, and after a short period of time, her weight dropped to the mark of 25 kg.
When people around her sounded the alarm about the girl’s condition, she found the strength to restore a healthy diet and diversify her diet. Now 18-year-old Margarita weighs 60 kilograms, does sports, rejoicing in the gained muscle mass, and keeps a fairly popular blog in “Instagram”.

Annie Strachan: less carbs, more exercise

Annie, 18, from New Zealand, has always been active in sports and watched her diet. But at the age of 14, she drastically limited her carbohydrate intake and increased her physical activity. Such a change in diet brought the girl to anorexia. Looking at herself in the mirror, she did not feel full, but still felt acute dissatisfaction with her figure and weight.

It was only when Strachan stopped menstruating that she realized she needed help. Thanks to her family, the girl gradually began to consume 3.5 thousand kcal per day and gain weight. Now she keeps a personal blog in Instagram, where she shares recipes of healthy dishes with subscribers.

The whole teenage period the girl fought for life, but the realization of the real threat due to the disease came to her not immediately. Jones tried to commit suicide five times and refused to go to the hospital. Moral and psychological support from her family and timely assistance of doctors gave her the opportunity to restore her health.

Now the girl weighs 56 kilograms, is no longer embarrassed by her athletic build and even proud of it. Once the cause of a terrible disease today plays into Adriana’s hands: she is actively engaged in women’s soccer.

Corinna Mantegazza: diets as punishment

In her senior year, during the period of preparation for admission to the medical faculty of a university in Italy, Corinna weighed less than 40 kilograms. The girl suffered from dysmorphophobia – a disorder in which a person is excessively concerned about a minor defect or feature of his body. Dissatisfied with her figure, the girl punished herself by refusing to eat. But when the weight reached a minimum mark and it posed a real threat to health, Mantegazza listened to the advice of doctors and realized that it was time to stop dieting.

The first thing Corinna did on her way to recovery was to break up with a young man who exacerbated her insecurities, reproached her for being overweight and encouraged her to lose weight. The Italian woman started a new life, put healthy food back into her diet and even started competing in bodybuilding competitions. As an additional motivation, the girl registered on Instagram, where she now regularly shares her successes. More than 40 thousand people are subscribed to her page.
