Squats are one of the most effective strength training exercises in terms of gaining muscle mass. In addition, squats are used as a general strengthening and rehabilitation exercise. Such loads are fundamental in almost all fitness complexes. Do you think that 100 squats a day without additional load can give you a real result? Will your butt get firmer and your legs stronger?
Spencer Althouse, Shanon Rosenberg, andBrendaBlanco of BuzzFeed decided to test it out. They each did squats for 30 days. 100 squats in one day. It would seem, what’s so hard?
Way to go
“My legs have always been bigger than my butt. I never thought about doing any special exercises, but this experiment changed the way I think about my body,” Shanon told BuzzFeed in the video.
The first day went well for the guys. Brenda decided to do squats 25 times in one approach. She ended up getting 4 of those approaches in a day with intervals. Spencer decided to do squats with a barbell on his shoulders. The next day, the first difficulties arose.
“When I woke up, I couldn’t move,” Rosenberg said of how it felt after the first day. – It’s harder than I thought it would be.”
The morning after, Brenda had trouble walking up and down the stairs; meanwhile, the third participant in the experiment, Spencer, didn’t give up. He works out at the gym six times a week, so 100 squats was doable for him from the first day of the challenge. The man admitted that he could do even more.
On the sixth day of the challenge, the folks at BuzzFeed noticed a change in his appearance and well-being.
“It’s discipline in a way,” Brenda shared.
On day 10, Spencer noticed that his muscles were stronger and wider than they had been before. This is why he found himself even more encouraged by what was happening. Althouse also noticed that his glutes had gotten firmer. Shenon shared that she does squats in public, otherwise she simply doesn’t have time at other times. However, that doesn’t stop her from continuing the challenge and keeping in shape.
The bottom line
“My legs look like they’re little bodybuilder arms,” Brenda shared in the video. – Just look at them! They’re super hard. God, they’re so strong! I don’t know what to do with that kind of power. No, seriously, it’s really cool. To look in the mirror every day and see that you are exactly THAT, is priceless.”
Shannon by the end of the challenge could do 60 squats without stopping, she was very proud of it.
Spencer admitted that he didn’t see any noticeable visual changes during the 30 days, but he felt stronger and more resilient.

The results were gratifying, and most importantly, unexpected. After all, in addition to the fact that the participants of the experiment “pumped” their fifth point, regular physical activity had a positive impact on the physical condition and endurance of everyone. And the main thing is that this way, step by step, starting from small, you can accustom yourself and your body to training.
If you have 20 minutes every day, why not spend them on this challenge? I think you will not regret, because the result will surprise you. Already after the first week you will feel a noticeable transformation in your body. Let’s get started, shall we?
