What happens if you eliminate fruit from your diet?

Is it possible to give up fruit completely?

Some of them contain as much sugar as desserts.

The human body needs many groups of vitamins that are found in fruits and vegetables. However, many diets exclude the consumption of glucose – it is also found in many fruits. But what happens if you completely eliminate these foods from your diet? How will the body react to this? Let’s find out together with nutriciologist Anna Garnova.

How much does the body depend on fruits?

It is known that sailors used to suffer from scurvy. The primary signs of the disease include bleeding gums, dry skin, loosening of teeth and others. It was caused by the lack of vitamin C in the sailors’ diet. That is why later dried berries and fruits were added to the provisions. A small portion was given daily to each crew member.

Today, humans do not have such a vital need for fruit. If the diet is balanced, then the norm of vitamins can be obtained from vegetables and even cereals.

In addition to vitamins, the main advantage of fruit is its high antioxidant content (especially in purple-colored fruits and berries). Antioxidants are the body’s natural shield against free radicals (can increase the risk of cancer).

It is also worth paying attention to the quality and origin of fruits. Due to the development of the agricultural industry, their vitamin profile is very different from what it used to be: “modern” fruits have 10 times less vitamins. Therefore, nutriciologist recommends consuming seasonal fruits of local origin.

Why do some doctors advise to give up fruit?

Unfortunately, fruits contain a large amount of free sugars. Therefore, many doctors recommend avoiding them. For example, in diagnoses such as insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, diabetes. In addition, many people poorly digest fruits in fresh form, this can lead to problems with the gastrointestinal tract.

What happens if you give up fruit?

Serious problems are not threatened by the refusal of fruit, because all the missing elements can be obtained from vegetables and greens. Moreover, some people after the exclusion of sweet fruits from the diet, digestion improves. For example, if a person has metabolic syndrome (can be identified by the “lifeline” on the waist), then abstaining from fruit can help to normalize the hormonal background and reduce the volume.

Metabolic syndrome is a set of abnormalities such as obesity, hypertension, high blood sugar and cholesterol.

What vegetables can be used to replenish vitamin C when giving up fruit?

Among the leaders in vitamin C content, nutriciologist calls the following:

  • sauerkraut;
  • sweet bell peppers;
  • parsley;
  • dill;
  • Brussels sprouts;
  • broccoli;
  • cauliflower;
  • kale, or curly kale.
