Why is your brain blocking your attempts to exercise and how do you reconfigure it?

Exercise, just like any other thing that is included in your schedule under the heading “optional”, will most often be done after a while. It’s as if your brain is sending signals – I’ll do it when I have time and energy. But the rhythm of modern life takes away so much resource that there is no energy left for realization of sports plans. The purchased season ticket gets dusty on the far shelf for months. Why, because theoretically you want to have a taut body?

The reason is not always banal laziness. It is worth digging inside and disentangle the established principles and attitudes. Perhaps they are the ones that slow you down. How to help yourself to find the problematic moments and include physical activity in the weekdays?

The reluctance to include in your already stressful and active life unnecessary loads that will take away even more resources is understandable and logical.

The brain tries to protect you from everything that exhausts you, spoils your mood and drains your energy. Hence the laziness. You come up with various excuses. Most often logical and plausible. After all, this is part of the mind’s task.

This is how you start running in a vicious circle – between “must” and “do not want”. How to get to the direct distance and finally get to the very point “B”?

How does it usually happen? Under the influence of trends, seasonal hysteria (for the New Year/summer, etc.) or on the advice of doctors, people sign up to the gym. They may even attend one or two workouts, telling themselves they “must”, but then they will still quit. Such motivation is ineffective and destructive. Through coercion you will not get good results. This is an action against your will.

To change your mindset, try to learn to listen to yourself, your body and your true needs. Ask the questions:

  • How often am I tired?
  • How do I help myself unload?
  • What makes me happy?

Answer them as honestly as possible.

Sometimes problems lie in the inability to recognize your body’s signals. It’s something we weren’t taught as children. Many families’ traditions don’t have health and fitness clauses.

Acting under compulsion, without a clear understanding of the reasons – characteristic attitudes that prevent us from building a normal life. At the same time, many adults do not even realize that physical activity can be enjoyable.

Through psycho-emotional unblocking, through simple and at the same time so complex questions, a plan of care, love and attentiveness can be drawn up. And after that, a strategy for a whole future life with the primary goal of taking joy in the process.

Tips for those who want to start and not quit

1. Don’t set a massive goal for yourself

Pick something you enjoy and exercise using a “small steps” strategy – from simple to complex.

2. Don’t go back to an activity you don’t like

Once you quit an activity, don’t try to resume it. Change the gym, trainer, type of load, direction of the sport. Only you know the good reasons why the previous workout didn’t engage you. Don’t minimize the value of your decision.

3. Consider how and with whom you feel comfortable training

Determine for yourself exactly how you want to train – individually or in a group. It’s better to try different options and then choose the right one afterwards.

4. Don’t be afraid of a weak body

Do not load it at once. Your task is not to set a record, but to start enjoying the process.

5. Start keeping an “emotional training” diary

Record feelings and bodily sensations immediately after and the next day of exercise. You’ll be surprised, but this simple method will give you a strong boost in emotional-body intelligence in as little as a week and even stimulate weight loss.

Be caring and mindful of yourself. Movement is life only when you exercise with desire and positive emotions!
