Won’t it get worse? What foods should not be eaten during allergy season

An allergy is a reaction of the immune system to substances that are not normally dangerous. They are called allergens. And the negative response of the body appears only when it sees a danger to itself and begins to defend itself.

Allergies are different: respiratory, food, arising from contact with an allergen (atopic dermatitis) and cross allergies. We tell you more about the latter together with nutritionist Alyona Stepanova.

What is cross-allergy?

For example, during the flowering season, a person with pollen intolerance has an allergic attack after consuming a certain product. This is due to the fact that together with food and air, a protein enters the body, which the immune system considers as a dangerous element. Then it begins to produce antibodies in response to the attack of the “stranger”. They interact with the allergen, and the typical signs of allergy are manifested: sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, red eyes.

What foods should be avoided in cross allergies?

People allergic to birch or alder blossoms should not eat raw apples, peaches, carrots, soy, peanuts and hazelnuts. These foods contain protein that is similar in structure to the protein of birch pollen. And so that the body is not confused, during the allergy period it is better to refuse them.

If you are allergic to ragweed or wormwood blossoms, your body may react negatively to celery, cucumbers, melon, spices and bananas.

People allergic to house dust should not have lobster, crab and other seafood in their diet. The reaction to them occurs because dust mites and crustaceans belong to the same type of arthropods and they contain similar proteins.

If there is irritation after wearing medical gloves, you are allergic to latex. This substance is created using the milk of the rubber tree. Cross allergic reaction in this case can cause bananas, avocados, kiwi, bell peppers and chestnuts.

Our immune system is located in the intestine, so we need to work with the intestinal microbiome (a group of microorganisms in the human body). Cross allergies occur when this microbiome is disturbed. It occurs due to disordered eating, improper lifestyle and when the immune system is lowered.

Give up alcohol, fast food, sugar and flour products. All this causes inflammatory reactions in the body, which aggravates the symptoms of allergies.

Restore the work of the gastrointestinal tract. It is necessary to work with bile flow, especially if there are gallbladder blockages.

Control metabolism. In this we will help products containing fiber.

Remove from the diet products that contain allergens with similar genetic material (protein). You can do this by studying the cross-allergy table.

Drink more water. This will help the body to excrete the products of intoxication.

Avoid stressful situations.
