This diet is not about prohibitions, like many others, it is about dosed food consumption. You can afford a lot, if you know the measure. When “by eye” is difficult to determine, the hand comes to the rescue. That is, you can literally measure portions in the palm of your hand.

For example, if you want fish or meat, the portion should not be larger than the palm of your hand (from your wrist to the base of your fingers). This rule applies to all foods high in protein. Butter or cheese, as well as any other fats – no more than the phalanx of your thumb. Yes, not much, but otherwise there will be no benefit from the diet.

As for vegetables, there is a little more freedom: put two palms together – this will be your portion. Carbohydrates, such as pasta, count on your fist, or rather, on the front part of it. It’s the same story with fruit. Cereals are more convenient to measure by the handful: one palm folded in a boat – a portion. If you decide to indulge in sweets, everything is strict: a chocolate bar no bigger than a finger is the maximum you can afford.

Disadvantages of the “palm” diet

Of course, such a diet has its advantages: you can track how much you eat, and do not worry that you exceeded the norm. But, as always happens, there are disadvantages. For example, this method does not take into account the following points:

  • the enzymatic capabilities and characteristics of the body;
  • innate features of metabolism or digestion of certain foods. Someone, for example, really needs more protein, and someone was born a vegetarian;
  • the state of the microbiota, which determines the level of wall digestion;
  • the condition of the mucous membranes of the GI tract, absorption and digestion capabilities.

These moments are worth considering when choosing a “palm” diet. Before any manipulations with nutrition, it is necessary to consult with your doctor.
