“Fall is a great time of year for all kinds of travel. While on one side of the country the weather still allows swimming, on the other the first tentative snow falls – and at least for this diversity, fall is worth welcoming with interest and curiosity. If you want to spend an unforgettable vacation in the coming months, it is worth paying attention to the following places”.
Krasnodar Region resorts in the velvet season
Velvet season in the resorts of the Krasnodar region begins in September and lasts until the end of October. At this time the air temperature drops, but the sea remains warm. Beaches empty, rental prices fall, and familiar resorts like Sochi, Gelendzhik or Anapa appear at their best. Go on a solo trekking on Krasnaya Polyana, ride on the rides of Sochi Park without queues and finally make a photo without crowds of tourists at the Olympic venues – all this is possible only in the fall. And to drive around stunning natural locations, illuminated by shades of yellow and red – the Blue Abyss in Dzhankhot, the Cypress Lake in Sukko and tisosamshit groves.
Karelia
Karelia is a region with unique nature and rich history. In autumn it is especially beautiful here: forests are painted in bright colors, and lakes become calm and transparent. Navigation with Kizhi and Valaam is still open, and you can make a pilgrimage to the holy places without hurry and fuss. Ruskeala Mountain Park is painted in warm fall colors, which contrast beautifully with the coldness of Karelian marble. And just renting a cabin somewhere in the northern wilderness, without internet and communication, also looks like an interesting plan. On the downside, there are midges. However, the locals have long ago learned to cope with it and are ready to share their knowledge with tourists.

Southern Altai
Autumn Southern Altai offers many opportunities for active recreation – from hiking to mountaineering and rafting on mountain rivers. All this in fantastic natural locations: in Kyzyl-Chin tract, nicknamed Mars for its terracotta slopes devoid of vegetation near the border with Mongolia; on the Teletskoye Lake with hidden corners like Kishte and Ayu-Kecpes waterfalls or Kamenny Bay; in natural parks and ethnographic complexes that reveal the beauty of Altai and the amazing history of these places.

Pskov region
Pskov region is an amazing place where you can plunge into the atmosphere of the past, enjoy the beauty of nature and just relax from the bustle of the city. In the fall in the Pskov region is especially good. At this time of year here you can go on a trip to historical places, enjoy peace and quiet, take an active vacation or just walk in the forest. Visit the Pushkin Mountains: the house-museum of the poet who called autumn his favorite season, the Trigorskoye and Petrovskoye estates, as well as the village described in Dovlatov’s “Zapovednik”. Visit the Pskov-Pechersk Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Russia, founded in the 15th century. Or hike through the forests and go fishing on countless lakes.
Kamchatka
The high season in Kamchatka is spring and summer, but in the fall there will definitely be something to do and wonder at the edge of the world. Salmon come to the rivers of the peninsula to spawn, which promises active fishing and rich catch – not only for people, but also for bears, watching which is a separate, unlike anything else experience. While bears accumulate fat for winter, it is dangerous to be alone in the forests of Kamchatka, but the water disposes to active rest somewhere on the border of extreme. Surfing in Avacha Bay, rafting on the Bystroy River – all this will definitely not leave indifferent thrill-seekers. For those who prefer a more measured rest, ocean sailing and, of course, bathing in legendary Kamchatka thermal springs will be more suitable: “hanging out” in natural thermal springs against the background of wild Kamchatka nature is the best way to fall in love with autumn.
