Vic Wilde and Alyona Zavarzina: a love that has no boundaries

This love story is like a beautiful movie, from the moment they met to the present. Two famous snowboarders from different countries turned their relationship into a fairy tale, which sports fans never cease to admire. That’s why exactly today, on Valentine’s Day, we decided to tell you about it.

Alyona Zavarzina (28 years old): Russian snowboarder.

Performs in parallel giant slalom, parallel slalom and snowboard cross. She is a bronze medalist at the 2014 Olympic Games, 2011 World Champion, winner of World Cup stages, medalist at the Junior World Snowboard Championships, and Honored Master of Sports of Russia.

Vic Wilde (31 years old): Russian snowboarder of American origin.

He has been a Merited Master of Sport of Russia since 2014. He is a two-time Olympic champion (the only snowboarder to win two gold medals at the same Games and the only Russian snowboarder in history to win Olympic gold), bronze medalist at the 2013 World Championships, 2013 Russian champion in parallel giant slalom, as well as silver medalist at the U.S. Championships, medalist and winner of the North American Cup, and medalist at the World Cup.

How did it all start?

Close acquaintance of the athletes occurred during the 2010-2011 season, namely at the World Cup stage in Moscow. They met on the morning of March 5, during Vic’s training on Sparrow Hills. Alyona helped him to get used to the slope, despite the fact that at the beginning of spring snowboarder began rehabilitation after a knee injury, so had to go to the clinic every day for procedures. Recovery was rapid. The girl not only independently, without crutches walked on the ice, but also, risking her career, coached her lover. Of course, the couple did not have a classic relationship: they lived in different countries and spent a lot of time training. Therefore, the athletes tried to think of something.

Not a romantic trip

When everything just started, Vic offered Alyona to go to his father by car to Mexico. The trip was planned long: six thousand miles by car. Not every girl can agree to such a thing, and not every man dares to offer such a thing. But this couple can’t do anything! Alyona was happy and confessed that she had dreamed about it all her life. It can be said that this trip was a harbinger of a speedy wedding.

Later, when the decision to get married was made, Vic began to learn Russian in order to better understand the family of his bride. He practiced hard, spending six hours a day studying, and learned many new words.

Provincial wedding

The wedding of snowboarders in love took place in Alyona’s hometown, Novosibirsk. There was even a traditional for Russia bride price, which took place according to all the rules. Vic paid for his bride with “Alyonka” chocolates. The marriage ceremony itself was also traditionally Russian, that is, in the registry office with a registrar and relatives.

Closer to my beloved

About a year after the wedding, Vic received Russian citizenship and since then has been successfully playing for the Russian national team. At first, the athletes moved together to the United States, to Vic’s homeland, but for several years now they have been living and training in Moscow.

Vic and Alyona appear together at events, do sports together and travel together. Now even distance cannot separate them. And we admire looking at them and rejoice at their sincere “sporting” love!
