How does sport help in the fight against stress?

Since childhood we hear loud phrases about how important it is to do sports and prefer walking to any transportation trip. But in adulthood everything is different: a lot of work, endless traffic jams and everyday life. All this takes away the last strength, and we are no longer enough for sports.

Now, when the world is undergoing great changes and the body is in constant tension, sports are more necessary than ever. We tell you how exercise can help with stress and where to find the motivation to go to the gym instead of watching the news.

How can sport help?

Any physical activity has a positive effect on the stress hormone cortisol. It is responsible for fat storage (as a source of extra energy), protein breakdown and increased glucose levels. It is cortisol that regulates insomnia, overweight, protects us from infections and activates brain activity. Physical activity, depending on its duration and intensity, can increase or decrease cortisol levels in the blood. Normalized exercise helps to reduce the level of this hormone and allows the body to restore internal reserves.

It is often the case that because of apathy you do not want to exercise. But it is worth just starting, and the general physical condition and mood quickly improve. If you find it difficult to force yourself to go to the gym after work, replace training with a walk, even a short one. Enlist the support of family or friends and go to the pool or yoga together. You’ll have a great time, distract yourself and relax.

Better yet, go dancing! Dancing is the perfect way to unload your brain and learn to hear and feel your body. And also perfectly stimulate several parts of the brain at once, because they make you simultaneously concentrate on the constant movement of the body in space and on memorizing dance patterns. Try switching from thinking “sports are important” to “sports are important for my health.” We can react adequately to what is happening, find the strength to develop and build a future life only if we feel well.
